Philanthropy

Beta Theta Pi prides itself on being one of the most involved fraternities on campus. This includes philanthropy and community service. Our participation in philanthropies ranges from taking part in fundraising activities sponsored by our neighboring sororities to volunteering on campus. In addition, we strive to give back to the Pullman community. Here are just three examples of such activities:

Elementary Pen Pals
This year the Betas have started the tradition of taking on a pen pal from a local elementary school. We send monthly letters asking the elementary students what they like to do and answering questions about college and fraternity life. They respond by writing us letters and drawing us pictures etc. We intend on continuing the tradition for years to come.

Dragon Days
The Betas hold an annual philanthropy every fall called "Dragon Days" (the dragon is our fraternity's mascot). Every year, many of the sororities pay to participate in the philanthropy and the proceeds are given to the American Heart Association. This particular philanthropy is a competition where sororities compete against each other to win the title of Dragon Days champions. Events range from sports (this year was Volleyball) to making up dances and skits. Of course, all of the events are held at the chapter house, all judges and referees are Betas, and every sorority team gets two Beta coaches to help them out.

"Cougs for a Cause" Poker Philanthropy
This year marked the first annual Cougs for a Cause Poker Philanthropy, a campus-wide poker tournament for St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Participants paid $10 to participate in the preliminaries, and if they won, they advanced to the finals. We had over 200 participants in the tournament which narrowed down to 25 finalists who completed in the final day for hundreds of dollars worth of gift certificates and merchandise donated by the Pullman community. The philanthropy raised $2000 dollars for St. Jude's Children's Hospital and was the most successful Greek sponsored philanthropy of the year!
